Skales v12.9.26 - Grip

Grip is the release where Skales stops when you say stop, and tells you what it costs before it spends. Under every reply sits the price of the session, read from the provider or from the price table, with the sub-agents' bill included; a ceiling you set in Goals stops a run before the next paid step and asks you three things - continue, take a cheaper model, or stop - in the chat, in the Code window, in Iris and on the phone. A typed "stop" is honoured before the first request leaves the machine, and a stopped run says so in its own bubble instead of pretending it finished. Credentials are locked away from the file, shell and search tools; a bulk action or a publish asks first, in every mode, and a yes never covers more than the card names.

We've just released Skales v12.9.26, bringing a number of improvements to how you interact with your AI agent. This update focuses on making Skales more helpful and transparent in its operations.

Paired Device Transcription

Your smaller paired devices can now turn recordings into text directly. Previously, these devices needed to send recordings to your main computer for transcription, limiting their use to your home network. Now, they can handle transcription locally, sending only the text back, ensuring your recordings stay on the device.

Studio Render Confirmation

The Studio render button now prompts you for confirmation before exporting. A card will appear, asking for details like the number of scenes, aspect ratio, size, and subtitle handling. This ensures you're aware of what's being exported before the process begins.

Campaign Flow Template

We've introduced a new "Campaign" template for Flows. This template provides a structured starting point with a hook, main clip, and call to action, all sharing a consistent visual style. It's designed to be easy to use within the existing motion mode.

Video Export Confirmation

Across all modes, Skales will now ask for confirmation before exporting a video. A card will appear detailing the export settings, including the number of scenes, aspect ratio, size, and subtitle options. This prompt appears for every video export, with no option to disable it, ensuring you always approve the final output.

Subtitle Options for Studio Renders

Rendered Studio videos can now include subtitles in three ways: as a separate .srt file, burned directly into the video, or both. The subtitles are derived from your scene text and timing, ensuring accuracy. The default remains "off" as burned-in subtitles cannot be removed.

Skales Code Context Breakdown

Skales Code now provides a detailed breakdown of your context in the status bar. You can see the breakdown of system prompts, tool definitions, conversation history, recent tool results, and the total cost against your model's context window. This information is measured as the payload is sent, ensuring accuracy.

Session Compaction in Skales Code

When your coding session context fills up, you can now use /compact to fold away older parts of the conversation. A card will appear indicating how many turns have been compacted, and you can open it to see the summary. This feature survives reloads and is saved with your session.

Server Certificate Authority Support

Skales can now connect to MCP servers that use their own certificate authority. You can add a CA certificate in the settings, and this certificate will be used for that server's requests only. Verification is never switched off, and any certificate issues will be clearly stated when saved.

Step-by-Step Skales Code Execution

Skales Code now provides a live, step-by-step status of its execution. You'll see which step is active, which tool is being used, and for how long. This provides more clarity than the previous single "deciding" status and helps identify hangs or slow processes.

Improved Diff Display

The display of differences in code has been improved. Removed lines and their counters now use the diff palette, distinguishing them from actual step failures. Long diffs are still folded but will show the first three changed lines on screen.

Clearer Step Endings

Each step in Skales Code now clearly indicates how it ended with a visual shape (tick, cross, or warning sign), matching the live status line.

Granular Permission Prompts

Permission requests now provide more detail. Each button offers a clear explanation of its scope: "this call only," "every action of that kind until this session ends," or "every one of them, in every session, until you take it back."

Devices Renamed from Agent Swarm

The surface previously known as Agent Swarm is now called Devices, found under Tools. This distinction clarifies that "Devices" refers to your own machines, while "Teams" refers to other people. The underlying functionality remains the same.

Script Interpreter Detection

Skales can now identify which script interpreters your machine has, rather than relying on error messages to learn.

Foldable Sidebar

You can now fold the sidebar using Cmd/Ctrl+B, and it will remain folded across restarts and different views.

Direct Navigation to Content

When the chat generates content like a poster, video, or document, Skales can now take you directly to it. If an add-on is disabled, it will inform you which switch needs to be enabled.
