Skales v12.9.27 - Hotfix
Skales 12.9.27 is a desktop-only hotfix for reliable model turns, clear run state and a more dependable Code workspace. It keeps the existing provider choices while making images, reasoning effort, approvals and model discovery follow the selected path.
We've just rolled out an update to Skales, version 12.9.27. This release focuses on making the agent more transparent and capable, especially when working with images and understanding its own actions.
Image Handling Improvements
Skales now correctly passes actual image data to the models it uses, whether you're in a chat, coding, or using the shared agent loop. This includes better handling for ChatGPT subscriptions. Importantly, session-private copies of images mean that if you resume a task, Skales remembers the pictures without needing them to be re-sent. In the Code tool, show_image is now more secure, only resolving images within your bound project and refusing external ones.
Reasoning Level Control
When you use the ChatGPT subscription adapter, Skales now respects the reasoning level you've selected. This is managed through the shared request builder, allowing for session overrides and using the model's available reasoning capabilities.
Detailed Action Logging
The "Diagnose" feature now provides a much clearer record of what's actually happening on your machine. Actions like sending emails, messages, or uploading files are logged precisely when they occur, along with the response from the other side, whether it was a success or a failure. This makes it easier to track down issues, as a reported sent message will now accurately reflect whether it truly went out.
Sub-Agent Progress Clarity
Child agents within Skales now offer more insight into their progress. The status indicators now show the specific step a sub-agent is on, the tool it's currently using, and how long it's been active, providing a more granular view of ongoing tasks.
Model Tool Call Validation
A new check in "Diagnose" ensures that every model you set up is capable of making a valid tool call. If a model attempts to use a tool with incorrect syntax, Skales will now catch this, preventing the appearance of a completed task when nothing actually happened. This validation is performed against the model itself, making it more robust against future changes.
Animated Background Control
For those on Intel Macs, you'll find a new option in Settings > Appearance to disable the animated background. This layer, while visually appealing, can consume system resources on certain hardware. The switch turns it off completely, and the change takes effect immediately. On Intel Macs, this setting now defaults to off, with an explanation provided.
Integrated PDF Viewer
PDFs generated by Skales, found in file cards, or linked in answers will now open directly within the Skales application. This built-in viewer offers standard features like scrolling, zoom, search, and printing, eliminating the need to open external applications. For PDFs within project folders, the Code window's preview pane now also displays them directly.
Multi-Role Skales Code
Skales Code can now leverage up to three distinct models for a single task: an architect to plan, a coder to implement, and a reviewer to check the changes. You can trigger this by pressing "Roles" in the Code composer or typing /roles. Each role can be assigned to a different provider and model, allowing for a more comprehensive development workflow.
Custom Endpoint Model Discovery
When using custom endpoints, Skales will now automatically discover and list all available models from that endpoint. These models will appear in the chat model picker, search, and agent configurations, making it easier to utilize diverse model setups.
Cost Transparency in Analyze
The "Analyze" report now clearly shows the total cost of a run, as well as the cost of each individual answer. This information is also available when hovering over the bar under an answer, detailing the expenses incurred by sub-agents and backend calls.
Enhanced Hotkey Picker
The AIPointer hotkey picker now allows you to learn keys by pressing them, making setup more intuitive. It also provides clearer feedback on which keys are being registered, helping to resolve potential mismatches between your intended hotkey and what Skales is listening for.
