Skales vs. Chatbox
The friendliest way to chat on every device vs. an agent that finishes tasks.
Chatbox (roughly 41,100 GitHub stars as of July 22, 2026) has the lowest friction of anything in this category, and it earned that honestly: desktop apps for all three platforms, a web version, and real published apps on the App Store and Google Play since January 2024. It works with your own keys and no account at all, and if you would rather not think about keys, its subscription bundles model access outright.
It is a chat client, and a very good one - MCP support, a knowledge base, document chat, web search, artifact previews. What it does not do is act on its own: no background runs, no schedules, no multi-agent work, no tools that touch your operating system. Skales is that other thing. Worth saying plainly: Chatbox has had mature phone apps for two and a half years, so the interesting question is not whether an app exists, but what the app can do once it is open.
Choose Skales if…
- You want work executed - files, mail, calendar, browsing, code - not only answered.
- You want an agent on the phone that has its own tools and can run a model on the device.
- You want media production and a coding agent in the same install.
Choose Chatbox if…
- You want the simplest, most stable chat experience across desktop, web and phone.
- You would rather pay a small monthly fee than ever deal with an API key.
- You genuinely only need chat, documents and search - and you want it to just be easy.
